Every tree is organically nurtured here, in The Present Tree’s gardens. When you place your order a beautiful Myrtle tree, botanical name: Myrtus communis, will be freshly selected by our devoted gardeners here, before being carefully wrapped by hand.
Symbolism
In Ancient mythology the Myrtle tree is sacred, especially to Aphrodite, Greek goddess of love and beauty, and symbolises love, harmony and joy. Myrtle trees were planted in Aphrodite’s temple gardens and she is often depicted with a Myrtle crown or wreath. For centuries, fragrant sprigs of Myrtle have been included in a wedding bouquet to symbolise the bride’s love and beauty, it is still a popular European custom today.

Tree Care
Your Myrtle tree will happily grow in its organic pot for the next few weeks, just place it in a sunny spot outside or in an unheated greenhouse. Your Myrtle is not suitable to grow indoors. It can tolerate winter temperatures as low as -5C, so if it is very chilly place it somewhere more sheltered, like a front doorstep.
Myrtle trees appreciate being drenched with water (fresh rain water is best) when the soil is almost dry. We have added nutrients to your Myrtle tree’s compost to create the perfect balance of nourishment; this organic goodness will slowly release into the soil to ensure your tree continues to flourish. Plant your Myrtle tree (still in its organic pot so the roots are not disturbed) in a flower pot, 20-25cm wide and with holes for drainage. Place in a sunny spot in the garden. Your Myrtle may be planted in the ground as long as the ground is reasonably dry throughout the year as its roots may become too wet.
Myrtle trees enjoy being lightly pruned in late spring to encourage new growth and may be clipped into a formal topiary shape. They can reach a height of 2 metres in 10 years, if allowed to grow naturally.
