Since ancient times the truffle has been treasured for its intense, aromatic flavours. The Hazel tree under which it grows symbolises faith, wisdom and inspiration.
This beautiful Hazel truffle tree’s roots are growing in a symbiotic relationship with the native Summer Truffle fungus (Tuber aestivum uncinatum), an underground mushroom which is a highly prized delicacy worth more than its weight in gold! The truffle fungus will slowly mature with your Hazel tree and, as the precious truffle nuggets ripen, in 4-5 years, they can be foraged every summer for the next 50 years.
All the trees are organically nurtured here in The Present Tree's gardens. So when you place your order a beautiful Hazel truffle tree will be freshly selected by our devoted gardeners before being carefully wrapped in organza and placed in its luxury parcel.
An exclusively designed card with your personal message, the story of the Hazel tree's ancient symbolism and a truffle tree care guide is also enclosed with your gift. Add an engraved brass plaque (see images) inscribed with your message so this special gift is always remembered.
This deciduous Hazel truffle tree naturally transforms with every season. In spring its catkins blossom with dainty flowers which are loved by our bees. The abundance of lush leaves are perfect for birds to safely make their nests in summer. In autumn ripe hazelnuts can be eaten fresh from the tree before its leaves turn pale yellow and fall.
Please note: This tree is deciduous so will naturally remain dormant all winter until the warmth of our spring sunshine encourages new buds to grow - it's well worth the wait!
This truffle tree is 55-65cm high, it is quite happy to be lightly pruned in early autumn and will reach a height of 3 metres in 10 years, if allowed to grow naturally.
